FAQS

Psychology

Psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree in psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.). They are trained in assessing and treating mental health conditions primarily through psychotherapy, psychological testing and assessments to diagnose mental health disorders and develop treatment plans.

Psychiatry

Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D. or D.O.) who specialize in mental health. They complete medical school and a residency in psychiatry. Psychiatrists can prescribe medication, and are often on the medical aspects of mental health treatment, such as medication management.

Psychology vs. Psychiatry

Psychologists and psychiatrists are both mental health professionals, but they have different educational backgrounds, training, and roles in treating mental health issues. Psychologists focus more on psychotherapy and behavioral interventions, whereas psychiatrists can prescribe medication and have a medical approach to treatment.
